The Role

Happy Jobs NI is delighted to be exclusively representing PMB Accountants, a friendly and growing accountancy practice based in Comber, as they recruit an Accounts Technician (Maternity Cover).

This is a flexible opportunity that can suit a range of experience levels. You might be an accounting degree graduate looking for your first move into practice, a part-qualified Accounting Technician, a fully qualified Accounting Technician, or an experienced Bookkeeper/Accounts Assistant who enjoys working across multiple clients. If you’ve worked in a similar small practice environment (or have strong SME finance exposure) and you’re keen to build a long-term role as the practice grows, this could be a great fit.

Key Responsibilities

Depending on your experience, your day-to-day could include:

• Preparing year-end accounts and supporting working papers for a varied portfolio of clients
• Producing monthly/quarterly management accounts and client reporting
• Completing bookkeeping tasks, bank reconciliations and maintaining ledgers for SME clients
• Preparing and submitting VAT returns
• Assisting with payroll administration and related submissions (where required)
• Supporting personal and/or corporate tax compliance work (experience dependent)
• Liaising with clients to gather records, resolve queries and ensure deadlines are met
• Using accounting software and cloud platforms (e.g., Xero or similar), keeping data accurate and up to date
• Providing general support across the practice during the maternity cover period

Person Specification / About You

We’re open-minded on background — what matters is capability, accuracy and a positive, client-focused approach. You’ll likely be:

• An Accounting degree graduate, Part-Qualified Accountant, Accounting Technician (part/fully qualified), or a qualified/experienced Bookkeeper
• Experienced in accounts preparation and/or bookkeeping within an accountancy practice or SME environment
• Comfortable working to deadlines, with strong attention to detail
• Confident communicating with clients in a friendly, professional way
• Competent with accounting software (practice systems and cloud packages beneficial)
• A team player who is adaptable and happy to get involved across a broad workload
• Interested in a role that could grow into something permanent as the practice expands
