Project Support Worker

Charity Jobs NI is delighted to be recruiting on behalf of HarmonI for a Moving On Project Support Worker to support the delivery of Pathway: Breaking Free From Homelessness Programme — a five-year programme funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, supporting men experiencing homelessness to build resilience and take positive steps towards securing and sustaining independent living.

This is a practical, people-focused role based within Utility Street Men’s Homeless Hostel, Belfast, working directly with residents to improve confidence, wellbeing and quality of life, while helping individuals develop the knowledge and skills needed to access and maintain a tenancy of their choosing. Depending on your background, you may have worked in similar roles such as a Homelessness Support Worker, Tenancy Sustainment Worker, Resettlement Support Worker, Project Worker, Outreach Support Worker or Housing Support Worker.

The Role

The Moving On Project Support Worker will play a key part in organising, designing and delivering a structured programme to support homeless men to improve their confidence and wellbeing, and to progress towards independent living. You will work alongside key workers and wider supports, helping participants to plan, engage, build skills and celebrate progress throughout the pathway.

Key Responsibilities

Programme delivery and participant support

• Organise, design and deliver an in-house programme supporting homeless men to improve confidence, wellbeing and quality of life, while developing practical skills to secure and sustain housing and employment.
• Plan and evaluate the programme with participants, including timetabling, engagement, attendance, generating ideas, organising in-house events/outings, and reviewing progress.
• Support outcome planning and assist participants to record personal plans with measurable actions and progress.
• Work alongside key workers to support participant plans across areas including mental and physical health, addictions, relationships, training/employment/volunteering, community citizenship, and sustaining tenancies.
• Organise and engage sessional workers to contribute to an in-house programme focused on resilience and coping strategies.
• Signpost participants to other relevant services, supports and projects as required.
• Identify and implement ways to recognise and celebrate achievements at each stage of the pathway.

Monitoring, evaluation and reporting

• Assist with gathering and recording data for programme evaluation, including six-monthly detailed updates and a final reporting piece across the programme cycle.
• Support annual reporting requirements linked to the programme funding, working closely with the Project Coordinator to ensure reporting deadlines are met.

General duties

• Provide day-to-day administrative support to enable smooth delivery of project activities.
• Support project communications activity, including social media updates and digital content.
• Assist with case studies and presentations, stakeholder engagement, feedback gathering and outcomes review.
• Maintain relevant continuous professional development and comply with HarmonI policies and procedures.

Location

Utility Street Hostel, Belfast, with flexibility to travel to other sites as required.

Hours of Work

20 hours per week, Monday to Sunday, including evening and weekend work.

Salary

£14,560 per annum (20 hours per week). Full-time equivalent (37.5 hours): £27,300 per annum.

Contract

Permanent, subject to successful completion of probation.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

• Minimum of 4 GCSEs (A–C) including English and Maths (or equivalent / QCF Level 2).
• Experience of working with people in a social/societal exclusion setting (e.g., special housing, residential work, supportive environment).
• Experience delivering projects from design through to implementation.
• Ability to deliver to groups and tailor engagement to suit the client group, including individuals who may not be naturally inclined towards sustained concentration/commitment.
• Awareness of legislative requirements when working with vulnerable adults.
• A genuine interest in supporting vulnerable people towards independent living, with a caring, non-judgemental approach.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written), with the ability to use initiative and problem-solve.
• Ability to manage difficult or crisis situations appropriately, demonstrating good situational awareness and risk mitigation.
• Flexibility to meet the needs of the programme.

Desirable Criteria

• A second level qualification in a relevant field of study.
• Experience working with people experiencing homelessness and/or vulnerable client groups within a hostel or supported housing setting.
• Full, clean driving licence.
